Life in Alacati

Two or one-story stone houses shade the narrow cobblestone streets of Alacati. This historical architectural texture is the most important economic value of Alacati. Due to the fact that our town was discovered intact and those who restored the stone houses and gave importance to conservation-oriented construction, Alaçatı has become one of the controlled developing and protected towns of our country, perhaps the most beautiful one. White stone, which is quarried from the region and hardens after processing, is used in Alaçatı houses. Preserved intact, the stone houses, the youngest of which is almost 100 years old, have been restored one by one; small hotels and restaurants have been opened. The center of Alaçatı was declared an “urban protected area” in 2006. It is forbidden to repair old houses or to construct new buildings that contain elements contrary to the traditional architectural texture.
